Helloooooooo dudes and darlings. One thing of the things I love most about what I do is how no two days are ever quite the same. I feel like a lot of jobs are very mechanical and routine whereas this gig requires one to learn how to wear many hats (often at the same time). I love how I can spend one day imagining up ways to promote an upcoming tour, another day recording video blogs and live acoustic videos, and yet another day driving to a city I've never seen to play an awesome rock and roll show and meet amazing new people. I definitely don't envy the typical nine to five even if being a full time musician isn't the most lucrative path I could have taken.

We've been working on a ton of new demos. Tonight, we were working on a track roughly titled "Gold Mine Valentine" that I think is really fresh sounding. It's like if you took a little bit of My Chem's flare for theatrical drama, Panic's newfound appreciation for organic instrumentation, some huge rock guitars from the 80s, and a sweet Jimmy Eat World guitar-hook and threw them all together. When will you hear this masterpiece?! That's for me to know (or presume to know, at least) and YOU to keep checking back on our Myspace page to find out!

Lots more studio work and promo to do this week. Stay in touchhhhh!

Helloooooo. So the show in Connecticut on Tuesday was a ton of fun. We got to hang out with our friends in The Maine, which was a lot of fun. Those kids are going to blow up real soon (if you don't consider what they're already doing to be blowing up, anyways). We were in for quite the surprise when we arrived and our friend Casey (one of the promoters that put the show together) told us that a producer whose work we greatly admire was going to drop by and check out the show. Fancy that. I got a chance to hang out and talk with said producer for at least an hour, which was an amazing experience to say the least.

We're off the road for a few weeks to work on demos and prepare for the APRIL NIGHTS & HIGHWAY LIGHTS tour in mid-April with My Favorite Highway. We haven't done an extended twelve-day run like this yet, so we're all really excited to get out there and see what it's like. Make sure if you're from the Northeast or the Midwest that you check out the routing on our Myspace page and come to a show if the tour swings into a city near you!

Considering I have to get up early tomorrow, I should probably try to crash despite my habitual insomnia. I'll write again soon!

Boom.

So if you didn't end up here by way of Myspace, I'm J.K. (no joke, straight up initials). I play guitar in a sweeeeeet band from Northern Virginia called THE BIGGER LIGHTS. If you don't know us, I'm going to have to recommend clickity-click-clicking and indulging your ears. I promise.. errr, hope.. you won't be disappointed. I've been blessed to have made a lot of wonderful friends on the road and in lieu of being able to see and share my life with them like less mobile friends are able to do, I've decided to launch this "open diary," if you will. I'll do my best not to slack on the entries, but I can't make any promises.

Not going to lie; things get a little chaotic sometimes. Between trying to be a full-time Bigger Light, teaching guitar lessons to pay the bills, and trying not to let the previous roles render me into a bad son/friend/insert title here, I feel like my life goes back and forth between being a wildly exciting adventure and a marathon without a finish line. It can be invigorating, exhausting, amazing, stressful, and confusing (all at the same time) but the end of the day, I love every minute of what I do. If nothing else, it sure makes for some stories to tell.

So buckle up. We're headed to Connecticut early tomorrow to play a sweet rock and roll show. Let's bounce.

Love & Tour Mileage,
J.K.
